Boat Crews

This is your Boat Captain speaking

We were again organised to host the combined Streets Central Coast Surf Boat Series and the Club Scotts North Coast Surf Boat Series at Scotts Head on 3 and 4 December 2022 but as has so often been the case over the past 3 years sea conditions intervened forcing a last-minute change of venue to the Nambucca River at Macksville. It turned out to be a fantastic event and a great spectacle with much positive feedback from competing clubs and locals alike. To the extent that many clubs were keen to do river racing at Macksville every season.

Some lessons were learnt in relation to setting the cans (refer photo below) in that its best to tie off to an immovable object on each bank rather than try and hold the line with an anchor. Also, apologies to those who had alley draws near the northern bank – it was shallower than anticipated. On Sunday there was a welcome reduction in the length of racing with the boats turning in front of 28 River Street and with the northern alley abandoned.

The big news for the year is that some hard fundraising is underway to purchase a new surfboat. The Club will be hosting a stand at the forthcoming Macksville Show to spread some interest in surf life saving and to seek sponsorship for the new boat. It’s a grass roots campaign with $100 of sponsorship all that is required to get your name on the new boat.

Gold coin (or any) donations also gratefully accepted. The Club will have a stand at the Macksville Show to push the donations along so please help if you have the time.

Other news is that after some (mostly justified) complaining about on-line learning we have a new qualified surf boat coach and sweep, the redoubtable Steve (Plumber) Russo. A small group attended an award ceremony for the conferral of this qualification.
